I have been taking countless laps around my local parks over the past several years. Walking in nature helps me process. I am inspired by the ever-changing light and seasonal changes, but most of all, I am encouraged by my encounters with God along those otherwise familiar paths.

In this ongoing series of paintings inspired by my walks, I have been experimenting with ways to capture some deeper feelings that words, even now, cannot express.

In the case of this painting, the looser brushstrokes and absence of detail reflect my brush's "dance" around the canvas. It was an actual joy to paint the way I felt when I looked up and saw the sunlight forcing its way through the trees. By turning up the color saturation to full volume, I tried to simulate the joy and gratitude I feel over my encounters with the Light as it breaks through the darkness, providing consolation, guidance and encouragement. It beckons me, and perhaps it also beckons you, to keep moving forward, holding on to hope and joy.

"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" (John 1:5)
